In this article, I’m going to show you how to create a music website easily with WordPress. In fact, this website was also build using WordPress!
I use WordPress, because it is very versatile platform and easy to use. There are also bunch of plugins available for WordPress, which helps you to make your website better.
This article focuses on setting up everything with a website hosting service, so you can get your site quickly up and running.
After that, you can start to edit your site, write articles & posts, upload content (music, videos, pictures) and modify the appearance of your new site!
Domain name
Before you can start to make a website, you need to come up with a good domain name. Domain name is simply the address of your website.
For example, this website’s domain name is soundnoia.com. I recommend to use simple and short name as the domain name, so people can easily remember it.
It is also important for branding to have a memorable name. If you are an artists, you can use your artist name as the domain name of your website.
Keep in mind that if someone is already using your domain name, you can not use it. This is why you need to check that the domain name you want is available. Don’t worry, we will come to that in a second.
I also recommend to always use .com suffix when choosing a domain name. You can use other suffixes as well (.net, .org, .uk for example), but the .com suffix is the most used and trusted by people.
Hosting
Now that you have decided your domain name, it’s time to choose your hosting service. You need a hosting service, because it will host your website and store all your articles and content on their servers. It keeps your website up and running, so other people can see and visit it.
I recommend to use Bluehost as your hosting service. Why? Because it’s very affordable and WordPress actually recommends to use Bluehost.
Currently the cheapest hosting plan costs only 3.95 $ per month, so it’s really nothing.
Step 1:
Go to Bluehost website. Once you have entered the site, click the get started button to proceed. On the next page we are going to choose a hosting plan for you.
Step 2:
The basic plans covers all the features you are going to need at this point. I’m actually using the basic plan right now on this website.
When your website starts to grow, you can upgrade your plan whenever you want. If you are just starting, I recommend to get the basic plan. Click select to proceed.
Step 3:
Now it’s time to choose the domain name for your website. If the name you want is already taken by someone else, you can not choose it. Bluehost will recommend you alternative names, if the name is taken.
You may choose the suffix you want for your website, but I recommend to choose .com. That’s because that it is the most used and searched suffix. When you are ready, click the next button.
Step 4.
Next you’ll need to fill out your account information and choose a account plan.
The 36 months account plan is the cheapest one. Unfortunately you can not pay month by month. Instead you will have to pay 12, 24 or 36 months at a time.
Step 5:
You may choose some package extras to your hosting package. The only one I recommend to get though is the domain privacy + protection.
Basically it means that your personal information won’t be showed, if someone checks your website’s information.
This can be easily done by going to to site such as Who.is for example, and searching the domain name you want. It will then show you the site’ owner’s name and personal information, if the domain privacy protection is not on.
If you choose to get the privacy protection, your information will be hidden to everyone.
Once you have selected the extras you want, you’ll need to fill out your payment information. All the most popular credit cards are available.
Step 6:
Choose a strong password for your Bluehost account.
Step 7:
After setting up your password, you may choose a theme for your new website. You can change your theme at anytime, so no worries, if you don’t like the theme you chose.
There hundreds of themes available for WordPress, so you may want to test out different themes. Some themes are not free, but the free themes got all you need.
Step 8:
Your WordPress site in now up and running and you can start to edit it! The site not yet published, so only you can see it and it’s content.
You can now explore different themes, write some articles or blog posts and start to edit your new website. Once everything looks good to you, you can publish your site to the world.
When you want to log in to your website as admin, you need to login either to your Bluehost account you just created, or you can go to www.[insertyourwebsitenamehere].com/wp-admin
For example, if you domain name is mywebsite.com, you would need to go to www.mywebsite.com/wp-admin to login to your website.
